The juice of it on sleeping eye-lids laid
Will make or man or woman madly dote
Upon the next live creature that it sees
- William Shakespeare
Filled with symbolism of unquestioning passion and desire, the notion of Cupid's Potion jewellery entered the mind of Stenzhorn's designer in a midsummer night's dream.
Inspired by Shakespeare's most beloved comedy, this collection is an ode to the love potion made from the juice of a flower struck with one of Cupid’s misfired arrows.
The magical nature of the wild pansy, or ‘love-in-idleness’, stems from a Roman myth in which an elixir is dripped into a person’s eyelids, causing them to fall irrationally in love with the first person they encounter.
In this collection, Cupid’s potion becomes a symbol of the unreasoning, fickle, erratic, and undeniably powerful nature of love, which can lead to inexplicable and bizarre behaviour, but can never be resisted.
Pierced by Cupid's tiny arrows, the wild pansy flowers are artfully detailed with diamonds and surging love hearts.
